Why UX isn’t just for designers

Are you forgetting the content part of your user experience?

What do you think of when you hear “UX”?

For many people, the image of a skilled designer comes to mind. And while designers are the face of UX, user experience is more than the colors and fonts used on your website.

Content is included in UX!

How you talk to your audience matters.

Your website can be as beautiful as [some piece of fancy art], and still, if your language doesn’t connect, the experience is going to fall flat.

Here’s what I mean:

  • When I’m reading content that is confusing and hard to understand, it’s like I'm driving and hitting potholes over and over again.

  • When I’m clicking on a button – or at least what I thought was a button – but, turns out it’s just text with a box around it and the link is in the sentence… that’s a no-go.

  • When I’m trying to purchase your product, but the instructions seem like a secret code. ARGH!

UX also expands beyond your website.

How do all of your channels interact? How does the messaging on each of your channels support each other?

Do you seem like a completely different person on your Instagram than you do on your website or emails? How many people am I talking to here?!

The user experience needs to feel seamless across your platforms and reflect your unique brand and voice at every touchpoint.

So while you’re narrowing down your spring color palette, don’t forget to refresh that content while you’re at it.
